Birth Of The UAE…

2 December, 1971
On this day, the UAE (United Arab Emirates) consisting of seven emirates was founded as a federation and became officially known as Dawlat al Imarat al Arabiyya al Muttahida, or the United Arab Emirates.

This change was originally made by the Rulers of Abu Shabir and Dubai as they wanted to establish a federation to protect the oil-rich region from powerful neighbouring countries. So the two influential Rulers extended their invite to other middle eastern countries to join the UAE.

A Brief History:
?18 February 968: Sheikh Zayed, Ruler of Abu Dhabi, and Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum, Ruler of #Dubai agreed to merge their respective Emirates into a union.
?1 December 1971: The British protectorate treaty expired.
?2 December 1972: 6 out of the 7 emirates (Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain and Fujairah) signed the Act of Union to create the United Arab Emirates.
?10 February 1972: Ras al Khaimah, the seventh emirate joined the federation.

?Each of these states are more commonly referred to as an Emirate of the UAE.
?Emirate means a territory that is ruled by dynastic Arabic’s or Islamic monarchy.
