11 year-old brave-heart Nia Nariman shares her inspiring story on helping kids fight cancer…
The summer holidays this year were very boring as I couldn’t leave the house due to COVID. So, for fun I started making soaps. I also wanted to help rescue animals like my dog Surf. I decided to combine these two things and my company Soap_for_Strays was born. All my sale proceeds were donated to a charity called Welfare of Stray Dogs.
In June my life changed as I got diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia.
In the whirl of hospital visits, medicines, chemotherapy, I questioned my mom…
Me: “Mom, how will we pay for all of this treatment? The hospital bills are so long when they print them!”
Mom: “Don’t worry Niu, my job gives me health insurance which takes care of the expenses!”
Me: “Do all kids’ parents have insurance and money and if not what happens?”
Mom: “Some of them are not as lucky as you are and have to ask for help. They look for donations or sell their houses/land. Sometimes the kids drop out of treatment”
Me: “Can we do something about it?”
Inspired by the Japanese tradition for good luck, I started the 1001 soaps challenge. All sale proceeds of my 1001 soaps will go towards treating kids who need but can’t afford cancer treatment.
If you would like to be part of this, please check out my instagram page @Soap_for_Strays (order fulfilment is based on my treatment schedule).
Childhood leukemia is curable in the majority of cases, if detected early and in time and with the right treatment a lot of lives can be saved.
With the help of @CanKidsKidsCan, I have organized a fundraiser to raise INR Rs. 25 lakhs INR (Approximately 33k USD).
These proceeds will go towards the medical treatment of underprivileged children with leukemia in hospitals around India where CanKids has been helping for over 17 years.
Please help me make this happen! Donate now – here’s how 🙂
