Today is INTERNATIONAL NURSES DAY (IND) & is celebrated annually around the world to raise the awareness of the important role nurses play in society by the INTERNATIONAL COUNCIL OF NURSES (ICN).
ICN commemorates this important day each year with the production and distribution of the International Nurses’ Day (IND) resources & evidence.
IND is celebrated on May 12th on the anniversary of Florence Nightingale’s birthday.
Who was Florence Nightingale?
?️ Also known as ‘the lady with the lamp’, Florence Nightingale was a British social reformer & a revolutionary figure in nursing.
?️ During the Crimean War in 1853, she noticed that more soldiers were dying out of infection than from battle wounds.
?️ Nightingale along with her team of nurses worked tirelessly towards improving the unsanitary conditions of the hospital thereby reducing deaths drastically.
?️ She plays a huge role in inspiring nurses of today.
