?Star Trek: The Next Generation is a science fiction series set in the 24th century and the second in the Star Trek universe.
?In this series, you follow the voyages of Captain Jean-Luc Picard and his crew on the newly-christened starship Enterprise-D to seek out new planets and lifeforms in space.
My Favourite Part:
?There are so many things to love about this show – the futuristic gadgets, well-developed characters, interesting story arcs, and multiple cliff-hangers which keeps the audience captivated.
?My favorite character on the show is Cmdr. Data, one of the only synthetic lifeforms with artificial intelligence. His positronic brain gave him impressive computational abilities, but it’s his quest to be human throughout the series is what I found most intriguing. (haha)
What I Learnt:
?This show is not just about time-travel and space exploration, a huge part of it is devoted to ethical dilemmas, and what it means to be human.
?For example, episodes like Measure of a Man (S02E09) dealt with if Data, an android, was Starfleet property or not.
?While they use science and logic to understand the universe, the dilemmas facing them in almost every episode demonstrated that being human requires more than science and logic.
Why do you recommend this TV show?
?It’s one of the best science fiction shows on TV.
?It’s so fascinating to watch what life would be like in the 24th century, when humans are not alone in space, and how it would be like to interact with alien species.
?Seeing the crew solve the problems they face in the episodes is very entertaining.
