According to legend, candy canes date back to 1670 in Germany, when a choirmaster at a cathedral gave out sugar sticks (which were soon to be candy canes) to coax young children to keep quiet during ceremonies.

⭕ The choirmaster added a hook at the end to represent the staff of the shepherds who visited Jesus when he was born. Some say that the shape of  letter ‘J’ shape and the pure white color represents Jesus.
⭕ 200 years later, red stripes were added to candy canes. Some believe that it symbolises the blood of Jesus when he died.
