World Wildlife Day 2021

3 March, 2021:

Today is World Wildlife Day and the theme for this year is: “Forests and Livelihoods: Sustaining People and Planet.”

𝑾𝑾𝑫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏 𝒉𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒍𝒊𝒈𝒉𝒕𝒔:The central role of forests, forest species and ecosystems services in sustaining the livelihoods of millions of people globally, and particularly of indigenous and local communities with historic ties to forested and forest-adjacent areas.

𝑻𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒔 𝒂𝒍𝒔𝒐 𝒊𝒏 𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒆 𝒘𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝑺𝒖𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒊𝒏𝒂𝒃𝒍𝒆 𝑫𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒑𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕𝒔 𝑮𝒐𝒂𝒍𝒔 𝒔𝒖𝒄𝒉 𝒂𝒔:
Goal 1: No Poverty
Goal 2: Zero Hunger
Goal 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns)
Goal 13: Climate action
Goal 15: Life on land

𝑾𝑾𝑫 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟏:
🌳Celebrates forest-based livelihoods and seeks to promote forest and forest wildlife management practices that accommodate both human well-being and the long-term conservation of forests.
🌳Promotes the value of traditional practices that contribute to establishing a more sustainable mode of interaction between humanity and these crucial natural systems.
🌳Reminds us of the urgent need to step up the fight against wildlife crime and human-induced reduction of species, which have wide-ranging economic, environmental and social impacts.

𝑫𝒊𝒅 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒌𝒏𝒐𝒘?
🌍A third of our beautiful planet’s land surface is covered with forests and woodlands, which are vital for human livelihoods and well-being.
🌍Rural and indigenous communities are reliant on the ecosystem of these forestlands for their essential needs like food, shelter, energy, medicines, etc and also have a strong personal, cultural and spiritual relationship with these environments.

𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝒖𝒓𝒈𝒆𝒔 𝒖𝒔 𝒕𝒐 𝒈𝒆𝒕 𝒊𝒏𝒗𝒐𝒍𝒗𝒆𝒅 𝒃𝒚:
💚Spreading the word, especially to children and youth as they are the future leaders of wildlife conservation. They deserve a future where we humans live in harmony with wildlife that share the planet with us.

𝑨𝒃𝒐𝒖𝒕 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑼𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒆𝒅 𝑵𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏𝒔 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒍𝒅 𝑾𝒊𝒍𝒅𝒍𝒊𝒇𝒆 𝑫𝒂𝒚:
❇️On 20 December 2013, the 68th session of the #UnitedNationsGeneralAssembly proclaimed 3 March as World by Wildlife Day to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild fauna and flora.
❇️The date is the day of the signature of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) in 1973.
